Aesthetic Eyelid Surgery

For patients in the Annapolis area, Dr. Sandel often performs eyelid surgery as a single procedure to correct droopy eyelids or puffiness around the eyes. Or he may recommend it in conjunction with a facelift, forehead and brow lift, skin resurfacing and other procedures.
There are some limitations to this surgery that may require additional treatments such as a chemical peel or laser resurfacing. Some of these limitations include dark circles under the eyes and skin texture problems. Discuss your expectations in depth with Dr. Sandel, and he can recommend the best procedures to meet your expectations. He will also explain the specific surgical techniques he will use to correct your problems.
Specific surgical techniques
Dr. Sandel will first mark the specific lines and creases on the upper eyelid to keep the scars as invisible as possible. He makes the incision, removes excess fat, tissue and skin and closes the incision with fine sutures to minimize scarring.
For lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Sandel makes the incision along the lash line or in the smile crease, again to minimize the visibility of the scars. As in upper eyelid surgery, excess fat, muscle and skin are removed and the incision closed with fine sutures. Fat in the lower eyelids can be moved to the upper cheek creating more fullness in this area as well. This creates a natural, full appearance of the eyelid in relation to the upper cheek.
After the surgery
Dr. Sandel will recommend a regimen of cleaning and treating the incision area to prevent drying of the skin and the eye area. You can expect some swelling and bruising, and Dr. Sandel can recommend techniques to keep those after effects to a minimum.
